BISON BUTTE

If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that Winnipeg is flat. Very flat. However, there are a few spots in the city with a bit of elevation. One many know is Westview Park, more lovingly known as Garbage Hill. Newer on the scene is Bison Butte. It was originally built to be a private mountain bike trail for the Summer 2017 Canada Games. It's now being maintained by Fort Whyte and is open to the public as a multi use trail.

According to the designers, there is a total of 6km of trail. There is a main loop around the water basin that I would guess is about 2km in total. It is the perfect place for a lunchtime stroll, quick nature break from the hustle and bustle of the city or a few hill sprints.

The trails are rated for mountain bikers. For hikers, just be mindful of the bikers on the trails. You can access the trail through the Tuxedo Business Park, from Fort Whyte, from the Sterling Lyon bike path or behind Cabela's.
